For more than 30 years, we have lived and worked in Central Kalimantan. Our goal is to offer guests an authentic experience of this remarkable region and to share a small part of the island we have come to call home.
Our guesthouse combines traditional Dayak building techniques and natural materials with modern timber architecture and thoughtful hospitality. If you are travelling to Kalimantan, you probably already know that this is not one of Indonesia’s most developed regions. Instead, we offer a unique blend of simple, culturally respectful living, essential comforts, and genuine local experiences. The tropical lifestyle invites you to connect with nature, local traditions, and the everyday rhythm of life.
While we do our best to keep unexpected wildlife encounters to a minimum, you may still experience things you would never find in a fully air-conditioned five-star hotel surrounded by marble and glass. In other words, we are not trying to turn Kalimantan into Europe! Are you ready for the adventure? The Bukit Raya Guesthouse stands on what was once—and still remains—a small forest. The local community called it Hutan Angker, meaning “Haunted Forest” or “Mystical Forest.” Stories told of spirits inhabiting the land. But don’t worry—step inside and discover for yourself the warm and welcoming Spirit that makes this place so special.
