Facilities

Buildings, cottages, and the unique “snail house” were built around the trees without a single tree being fell on the property. Over the past 25 years, the garden has evolved naturally. Trees die, new ones grow, and therefore the garden is far from a manicured display garden.

A large rambutan tree (Nephelium lappaceum) stands at the center of the property, and most guest room doors face this beautiful tree. A variety of different trees grow on our small property, including many different fruit trees, sago palms (Metroxylon sagu), cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii), acacia (Acacia mangium), ficus (Ficus benyamina), ulin (Eusideroxylon zwageri), durian (Durian zibethinus), agarwood (Aquilaria sinensis), rubber trees (Hevea brasiliensis), palms, and many more.

Or, who knows, maybe you’ll spot blooming orchids in the garden? Just wander around and keep your eyes open! We’re sure you’ll discover something special… And if it ever comes to that and you can’t find anything, just ask Beatrice for a personal garden tour!

After passing the garage and the main entrance, the public part of the guesthouse, including the dining room, invites you to enjoy a cold welcome drink – our famous “Teh Serai” (lemongrass tea).

Two comfort double rooms with a wide, covered veranda are located right next to the dining room. These two rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with hot/cold showers.

On the second floor, you’ll find our air-conditioned “Honeymoon Suite,” the “Deluxe Double Room with Balcony,” with a private bathroom. This room is ideal for those seeking more luxury and privacy and is also popular for long-term rentals.

The covered gallery on the ground floor leads to three standard double rooms with their unique wooden architecture and a curved grass roof for a naturally cool climate. The public lounge with a barbecue area and natural swimming pool leads to the special snail house, “Rumah Keong.” But that’s not all! A naturally curved bamboo bridge leads to the exotic tree house. The tree house epitomizes the tropical lifestyle and is generally very popular with guests.

We rent a total of seven guest rooms.

On the grass roof, our guests will find a cozy “sunset bench” with views of the surroundings.

Children can play on a natural playground around a giant Ficus Benjamina (Pohon Beringin).

The Bukit Raya Guesthouse is also ideal for small weddings or family celebrations, as well as baptisms, in the garden and by the pool.

We would like to draw the attention of our guests on to a very serious problem in Kalimantan. Excessive alcohol consumption is a major cause of marginalisation of the indigenous communities in Kalimantan. A lot of suffering, especially for women and children is often the consequence of uncontrolled consumption of alcohol. That’s why we do not offer any alcoholic drinks in our Guesthouse and we do strongly recommend to our guests, to abstain from all kind of alcoholic drinks during their stay in Kalimantan, also in our Guesthouse. If you like, we would like to explain you more about this serious issue during your stay in our guesthouse. Do not hesitate to ask us for.

Beatrice’s hobby is collecting native orchids. Dozens of them are scattered throughout the property, and you might just spot one or more blooming orchids during your stay at Bukit Raya Guesthouse. Wear mosquito repellent and start your orchid hunt!

For some of them, we do not know their name yet. Feel free to propose to us, also if names are obviously wrong. Thank you for your participation!
