Hiking or biking in the Tangkiling Hills

Discover Tangkiling’s seven hills near Palangka Raya perfect for hiking and biking. Enjoy stunning views, eco-friendly dining at Kedai Itah, and a refreshing dip in Sei Gohong’s reddish waters

Hiking and biking are more for the hardy, especially in the scorching equatorial heat and at midday. But in Tangkiling, about 35 km outside of Palangka Raya, you’ll find these seven isolated hills. From the top of these hills, you can see 360 degrees without seeing a single elevation. As far as the eye can see, there’s only flat land and forest.

The groves and trees covering the hills invite you to hike and bike along their many small paths, trails, and roads. The higher you climb, the more apparent it becomes that these hills were once small islands in the sea, and that waves once eroded their steep shores.

Bukit Raya Tours & Travel rents a limited number of bicycles and arranges transportation to the hills.

After climbing the hill and enjoying the beautiful view from the summit, you can enjoy a snack or a full meal with a fine selection and specialty drinks at the nearby snack restaurant “Kedai Itah”. Kedai Itah and its owners are known for their permaculture farming and ecologically sustainable food and drinks. You can also take a dip in the gorgeous reddish waters of Sei Gohong to cool off after the strenuous climb.

A short hike to Bukit Cinta, or Lovers’ Hill, can be easily combined with the Pulau Kaja orangutan tour.
